Custom Removable Hardtop

The areas on the 110 that you will be concerned with to remove
the hardtop are circled above. You will access these areas from the inside
of the vehicle, but this gives you a rough outline of where you will be
headed and where you need to be looking. You will need metric and standard
tools, both hand wrenches and sockets with extensions as well as a Phillips
screw driver. To remove the hard top we will be working from the front to
the back to aid you in locating bolt locations.

Remove the 4 screws (2 per visor) that hold on the sun visors and their
plastic trims to the top of the windscreen frame. Set the visors and trims
aside to be installed later. The center plastic trim area that holds the
interior light will now be loose as well. This can hang from the wiring
for the light and need not be removed. Once you remove the sun visors and
their plastic trims you will see the structure of the windscreen frame,
as shown below.

As per the green arrows above, look up into the windscreen frame and you
will see 6 bolts, spaced across the windscreen frame from L to R, that hold
the windscreen frame to the leading edge of the roof. Using a socket wrench
remove these 6 bolts. The leading edge of the hard top is now loose. If
the leading edge of the roof was sealed to cure the leak, remove this sealant
at this time.
You now need to remove the door seals (long black rubber pieces that isolate
the door from the body) from the 4 side doors. These can be completely removed
if you wish, or you can remove only the top sections that contact the roof.
The seals are one piece, so this can be done either way. To remove the seals
simply pull on them, they are pressed in place without fasteners.
Between the front and middle doors is the "T support". The top
of the T support is bolted to the hardtop assembly using 4 bolts per T support.

This image shows a close up of the top of the LH T support. Using a socket
wremch remove the 4 bolts that hold it in place. Complete this same job
for the RH T support. When the hard top goes back on all these holes will
need to be lined up again, some pushing and pulling will be required to
make everything line up. Notice that in this image the door seals have been
removed.

To the L and R of the rear bench seat you will find the bar that hold the
seat back in place. You can see this as the silver bar in the image above.
Behind that bar remove the nut and washer from the post that secures the
roof side to the rear body tub. The post will remain sticking down, as per
the photo. This post will help line up the roof when it comes time to install
the hard top again. This image shows the LH side nut and washer removed.
Complete the same job on the RH side of the 110.
NOTE: These "posts" as seen in the image above stick down
below the roof line once the roof is off. If you set the hard top assembly
on a flat surface such as a garage floor you will damage these posts. Before
the roof is set onto the ground, make sure to have some blocks ready to
set the roof assembly on so that these posts do not get damaged.

In between the rear jump seats, below the middle of the window on each side,
is the next bolt. This image was taken without the jump seats in place to
clearly show the area. Remove this bolt and washer from the LH and the RH
side. This image is of the LH side. This area will be harder to access,
and harder to see with the jump seats in place.

This is the hardest area of the hardtop removal. Behind the rear most jump
seat on the LH and RH side is another post that needs to have the nut and
washer removed. This image is of the LH side looking between the rear most
jump seat and the back of the body tub. Reach behind the jumpseat and remove
the nut and washer. Complete this same job for the RH side.

Where the tailgate meets the body, on the interior are the last bolts that
hold on the hard top assembly. This image shows the LH rear area. Remove
the bolt that goes through the hole shown in the green circle. Complete
this job for the RH side as well.
The hard top is now loose. Be sure the lift gate is open and remove the
top. The hard top assembly is heavy, but it can be lifted off the 110 by
4 people. We do however suggest that a pulley system would be a much easier
way to remove the roof. The roof must be removed vertically for a few feet
to clear the roll cage. Then the roof can be walked backwards off the vehicle.
Remember if you plan to set the roof on a flat surface to use some blocks
to keep the mounting posts from damage before you set it down.
There are a total of 18 bolts, 4 screws and 4 nuts that need to be removed
to remove the hard top.
To install the hardtop assembly, reverse the above.
Remember that you will need to push and adjust things to get all the holes
to line up when you install the roof. We suggest that as you install the
roof, you get all the bolts started, before you tighten any. Then go back
and tighten all the bolts and nuts once each on is loosely installed.
Custom Removable Surrey Top

To install the soft top assembly the LH and RH side panels.
These pieces remain as they were from the original truck, and they install
in the same way. The only changes for the new soft top is the addition of
a second "hoop" just behind the original ( as shown in the image
above) and a new windscreen bar.

Install the new NAS Defender windscreen bar onto the windscreen
frame. The image above show the bar in place. The bar bolts onto the windscreen
frame just as the hardtop did with the 6 bolts installed from inside. Once
this bar is in place the interior light and the sunvisors can be re-installed.

Install the LH and RH side panels and the hoop that connects
the LH and RH "T supports" to each other as shown in the image
above. RH shown.

This image is of the RH T support area.
To ship the soft top parts back to NJ they had to be taken apart. Once you
have this assembly back together, you will be able to remove it nearly complete
and set it aside. This initial install will take longer due to it being
more "apart" than it needed to be for shipping.

Image of the LH front of the side panel.

The LH and RH side panels attach to the windscreen frame with
one bolt per side. As shown above.

Image of the middle door seal area and the first full size
hoop.

The hoops are marked in order, and they install with the small "foot"
clamps as per the original design of the full soft top. The door seal area
is bolted to the hoop. We suggest all the bolts are installed, and then
tightened after all the pieces are in place. This will give you the adjustment
needed to get things to line up.

Image of LH and RH side panels correctly in place.

To install the new rear most hoop slide it into the tube in
the rear body and install the foot clamps as per the image above. This image
is of the LH side, complete the same clamp install on the RH side.

Next install the small brace bar that connects the first full
hoop to the second full hoop. As shown in green above. Make sure that all
the sharp edges on any hardware point "in" and not "out"
so that nothing damages the soft top fabric.
Once everything is tight you are now ready to install the soft top.
The soft top install starts at the windscreen. Lay the soft top upside down
and backwards on the hood of the 110. Then lift install the top's front
edge into the slot on the windscreen bar. Once the hard plastic sewn into
the leading edge of the roof is stuck into the windscreen bar, flip the
top over itself and onto the vehicle. It will now be tan side up and laying
correctly.
Next feed all the small velcro straps through the slot in the side panels
and attach them loosely. Then work your way back installing the velcro and
straps around the hoops in the soft top frame. Make sure that the top is
in the gutters of the framework and keep working toward the rear. The last
step with the top is to snap the lower rearm most corners onto the black
belt rails on the body side.

Once you have the soft top installed and tightened you will
need to install the door seals by simply pushing them into place. Now you
are ready to enjoy fun in the sun.
