Back to the Defender 90 Section

As ECR handles more 90s and 110s that anyone else in the USA we have cures for the issues that can come up on your Defender, when the other shops are stumped.

Please note: We are leaving this page up for information purposes, but we now have our speedos redone at
North Hollywood Speedo in CA.
They do an excellent job for less than we can do it.

The Odometer Display: (1997 NAS Defender 90 Only)
The odometer display in the 1997 NAS Defender 90 has a nasty habit of going blank and or displaying gibberish instead of the total miles on your Defender 90.
The good news is that we have the complete fix for this issue available to you on a mail order or in shop basis.

Here you can see a speedometer assembly that has just arrived here at ECR this morning for repair. We have powered the unit up, but there are no numbers visible on the odometer display. Some shops just install a new speedometer, but this can greatly hurt the resale value of your Defender. Even if you keep all the documentation, a potential buyer might think your are not telling the truth about the total miles. CarFax and other services will flag the vehicle as having incorrect miles. Even if you do keep the paperwork it will likely turn a number of potential buyers off.
If you don't fix the problem its going to be hard for that next buyer to buy a car where they can't see the total miles driven.

Our cure retains your original miles exactly and keeps the date code on your speedo unit because we are repairing your unit, not offering you another one. Savvy buyers will know where to look for the date code on the speedometer housing. They will know this because we discuss it on this web site. The odometer above shows the date code as 06/97. That means it is likely the original speedo for the 1997 Defender 90 it came from and when our repairs are done the date code will be retained.

The problem is the ribbon that connects the speedo computer unit to the display. It was made far too long and has a number of folds in it, see red arrows. Over time these folds have caused the conductors to break down then the signal no longer gets from the computer base to the display, resulting you not being able to see the numbers on the display. The computer itself still adds up and retains the total miles, it just can't be displayed to you.

The ECR ROX solution to this problem:
We now offer a mail order repair service of your speedo/odometer assembly. Send us your speedo and in just a short time we will repair it and send it back to you. This repair means that you get all the benefits of a new speedometer without any of the down side. We retain your original miles. We retain your original date coded housing and you get a clear and correct display that is as good as new. Well, actually better, because we fix the fold problem to make sure that the issue will not come back.

Here you can see the same unit that arrived this morning, now repaired and working properly, with a clean and clear display, ready to head out. It will now be sent back to the customer to re-install into his Defender 90.
If you have Defender needs contact ECR. It might be that you need a new frame for your Defender, or it might be that you'd like your odometer to work.
Small job or large job we are your Defender source and no one else comes close.
